Road Trip Started Today!

Today was the first leg of a 3000+mile road trip. 550 miles from CT to OH. Next stops are Indianapolis, St Louis, Little Rock, Memphis, Lexington then Hagerstown, MD for the last overnight before heading back home.

Did 31.8 MPG for the day, with the top down for about 3 hours of the drive, and averaging about 70 on the highway. The car is an '11 base convertible with 2.73 rear end, running a Bama 87 Street tune. Both my wife and my 13 year old son remarked how comfortable they were for the long ride, and I really enjoyed driving too.

We stopped along the way at a store that sold sheepskin stuff, and I bought a sheepskin wash mitt. I laid it on the edge of the center console and it made a fantastic armrest even worth the cup holder door open. Best $20 I've spent in a long time!

Oh and for the radar detector thread... My Valentine V1 came through with flying colors on Rt. 70 in PA. Just sayin'.

Making me jealous! I'm doing a trip from Vancouver to Montreal through the US myself in a couple of weeks. Any tips concerning the car? I'm planning on applying painter's tape to the front end before I head out.

3M has some stuff out in a spray can now (Paint Defender) that is sort of a do it yourself clear bra. You spray it on and can peel it off whenever. Saw it at a local Wal-Mart last week.

I just did the usual oil change, fluids checks, etc. One special thing I did was but a spare tire. I went to the local used parts place looking for a cheater spare, but ended up with a full size aluminum wheel with a like new Yokahama tire for $50. And it fit perfectly in the spare area of the trunk.

Colour me skeptical and cheap. The painters tape offers the perfect worries/$ ratio.

The spare tire thing was my biggest worry but I did the good ol' Drag DG-31 wheel and tire fix.

Last day in Little Rock today, headed to Memphis tomorrow. So far we've logged over 1600 miles in 34+ hours in the car. 28.6 mpg average to date so I can't complain about that. Loving every minute of the trip!

No, Sadly between the heart, rain and my son complaining about the wind on the highway we've been 80% top up.

You don't have a wind deflector back there?

Wrap up...

12 days, 3315 miles. 64+ hours in the car. 28.3 MPG overall.

I got off the interstates as much as practical. US40 through OH and PA was great, but my favorite driving roads were through Kentucky around the Bourbon trail. Lots of twisty, hilly 2 lane, most with a 55MPH speed limit. Great fun!

Would I do another long trip like that in a Miutang? HELL YES!
