Got a baseline dyno run in today

Figured I would go and get a baseline run done while the car is stock so I can actually see the progression of my mods. I got three good pulls in, in 4th gear on 87 pump gas. Only mods on the car are borla atak axle backs and a Barton short throw shifter. Best pull the car made 372 rwhp and 311 ft/lbs of torque. Overall I'm very happy with the results my goal was between 360-370, next session will be with a tune on 91 octane and then longtube headers with and a catted x pipe. I'm hopeful to get to over 400 with just those mods.

Torque numbers seem a bit low but the HP numbers are pretty good. Why didn't you pull in 5th gear?

Isn't that 5.0 a naturally low torque motor? It trades low end grunt for higher peak HP, reason for the higher rpms? At least that's what I thought...heck the Boss 302 has less torque than the GT, but more HP, just seems the motor is tailored to HP vs Torque (but torque is more fun)

Most stock dyno results I've seen are in the 360-370 HP range and 320-340 To range.

I did feel as though torque numbers were low but every dyno reads differently from what I understand. The whole key to this is that I will be using the same dyno throughout the process of modding my gt that way I'll be able to hopefully see the actual worth of my mods. As for the gear pull the instructed me to row through the gears smoothly, get to 4th and hold at 2000 rpms and then hammer it. This was my first time ever dynoing my car

Seems like a good strategy. That way you will eliminate as many variables as possible. Interesting about the 4th gear pull. On the MT-82 it's 5th that is 1:1. Doesn't matter in the end though if you care about relative values.

Yeah I need to update that. Ha if my v6 was putting down that kind of power without a blower I would have kept it.

And I guess for the future ill ask them about doing the pull in 5th gear

The one caveat about 5th gear pulls (and depending on your rear end gearing) is that you may run into the speed limiter if you are not tuned and it hasn't been removed.

Wish I had one of those cars that, bone stock, made 372. Mine did 356 but the torque was 334. After my current mods, (minus the Boss Intake and BBK 85 throttle body) was 411 RWHP 388 TQ. Those numbers seem a tad low on the torque end.

I'll probably have the car tuned in the next few weeks and will go back to see what it will do with a tune on 91 octane gas, no 93 in my area sadly.

I was going to say if I pull in 5th I'll probably hit the limiter since I'm pretty sure I have 3.15s but that won't be an sissy when I go back.

As for the torque I hope it's just the dyno reading low because the torque curve is actually really nice looking.
