How to add fuel injector cleaner?

Maybe a dumb question but How do you open the safety valve on the opening to the gas tank to add fuel injector cleaner or other additives? Do you need to wedge it open with the gas pump nozzle and pour around it?

Your car came with a funnel in the trunk by the spare wheel.

Funny, I actually was trying to figure how to add a bottle of royal purple fuel injector cleaner yesterday.

There are two safety buttons/taps that need to be pressed down before the metal cover will open. My funnel would only let me press on one button, so I used a small flat head screw driver to press the other and it finally let the funnel through.

But I didn't know there was a funnel in the trunk, I'll have to check mine where the spare is.

I had a bottle that was bought after my F150 had been setting a while. When I bought the Mustang thought,what the heck, added it. Went right in with no prob. No funnel needed.

2008 2013 Ford Mercury Lincoln Fuel Gas Filler Funnel Genuine Brand New | eBay

I bought my car used and didn't have one in the trunk. Learned the hard way watching seafoam spill down instead of in the tank :}

Or you could just get one from Ford. Not sure how much they cost though.

I am of the understanding that fuel injector cleaners are useless.

Is there any real scientific study data? I could understand if a particular car is driven in a particular manner where there might be some issues with clogged injectors, but I am to understand normal driving keeps them clean.

As long as it doesn't harm anything, I guess it's at worst just a few bucks spent.

I guess you didn't notice the puddle on the ground, under the car?
