5.0 3.73 fuel mileage?

Ive had my 5.0 for about 3 weeks now and have been experimenting seeing what kind of fuel mileage this car can really get. So granny cruising shifting around 2500-3000RPMs I get about 260 miles on a full tank. I think my best was around maybe 280 miles on a tank and my worst being 225 on a tank with a little spirited driving and mostly around town.

Just wondering what are you guys seeing as far as fuel mileage for your 5.0? I do also have 3.73 gears

Least Mileage: 15.2 mpg
Most Mileage: 22.3 mpg

I've been averaging 18.3 mpg, so a full tank should take me 293 miles.

That is certainly true but overall compared to older generations of Mustangs the new 5.0 gets pretty decent mileage for a v8.
I get 20-23 MPG on average but I do a lot of long highway and county road driving. I also only very sporadically get into the gas. I average about 300 miles + or - on a full tank and that's with about 10-25 miles left to empty. It'll probably go 325-340 miles if I really push it. I unfortunately don't have the 3.73 gears since mine is an auto. I think my gearing is a very high 3.15:1. With your relatively low gearing your mileage sounds about right.

Forget about miles per tank, it is useless for comparison since everyone's definition of "tank" is different . . . MPG on the computer is a half decent basis for comparison ; calculated MPG is better.

"Granny shifting" would be keeping the RPM's below 2,000 like the automatic does . . . probably can squeeze out a bit more.

I think it is great to be able to get decent fuel economy and have fun with the car too.

I am a bit surprised that nobody seems to be able to beat the EPA estimates on the 2011+ cars ; it happens all the time with the 2010- cars with the 4.6 engine.

I get around 15.7 MPG, daily driving in mixed Atlanta commuter traffic. I drive fairly aggressively (but play nice), shifting anywhere from 2,500 to 3,000 RPM. Out of curiosity, I spent one week driving like my foot was on eggshells, shifting around 2,000 RPM -- I got 21 MPG in the same commuter traffic. I haven't had it on a highway trip yet, but I would think that beating the EPA rating of 15/26 wouldn't be difficult at all. I had similar results when I had my 2009 Bullitt, and it had a 3:73 as well.

Small tank big engine distance range is terrible in these cars...i get 13mpg with 410's. Im lucky to get 200 miles on a tankful. But then again didn't set this car up for gas mileage.

Lucky to get 200-225 miles per tank.

Granted, my car is not stock, but, the mileage is the least of my worries with this car. My 05 averaged about 8 MPG City and maybe 15 MPG Highway.

Feathering the gas on the 3.5 hour highway commutes I do once a month and I get 24-25 mpg while averaging 71 mph.

But can't complain as around town usually average around 18-20. I usually granny it though with just a few bursts here and there...

The EPA estimate is 18 city and 25 highway with a combined of 20 for an auto. That estimate looks like it gets beaten often.
