not a fan of off road pipe sound on 5.0?

Is it just me or does the "race growl" sound too raspy ? I like the deeper tones on mustangs so I got the outlaw axlebacks series for my gt and will post vids soon, but the vids I see on YouTube of off road pipes with any muffler, even stock, does not appeal much to me. Dont get me wrong some rasp is to be expected, I came from a 2011 v6 which I think sounded real good

But what do I know I think I'm in the minority. Maybe when the ghost tune is available without an off road pipe application and my axlebacks I'll be content?

I don't like it. I had one for a few months after I installed a set of headers and ended up changing it out for a catted x-pipe. The car is still plenty loud enough and sounds a lot better.

I absolutely love my setup. I am running a Ford Racing after cat x pipe, Resonators deleted and Roush axle backs. It would be too much if I also got rid of the cats.

I run a JBA offroad x pipe with flowmaster outlaws. I get compliments all the time. My car sounds very very mean. Still has that low growl but when yea nail it past about 4-4500 rpm's it sounds like a nascar. And yes, it's super loud

I agree with the OP. I certainly don't mind a loud car (although I'm over it for myself), but there's loud, and there's out-of-control blatty/raspy noise loud.

I much prefer a high quality sound (loud or quieter) than just noise for noise's sake.

Cats on these cars do mellow the sound tremendously. Best my 05 ever sounded was with OEM manifolds, H and SLP Loudmouths. After the LTs, I struggled for years with multiple midpipes (4) and axlebacks (6) and never quite found the right sound again.

What would be a good low note exhaust that still turns heads?

GT500 mufflers, long tube headers, catted x-pipe with resonators. It sounds absolutely fantastic.

100% agree. I think a lot of people just get caught up in the LOUD = GOOD mindset.

H-pipe gives a deep, low tone; X-pipe is raspy.

I have never heard a youtube clip that sounds very good to me. I run a Lethal H, 16 in race bullets inplace of resonators and the old box shape 40 Flowmasters. I get compliments daily. No rasp, no drone. Its not to loud below 3 grand but comes alive above that. Nice low rumble too. I set off car alarms in parking garages if I'm not careful. I wouldnt change a thing with my setup.

agree! removing cats is just insanely loud. doesnt give a nice tone, it just make the car sound load and noisy!
