It is trying to eliminate any electrical potential between the hood and the car by grounding the hood to the car. I think it is based on a misunderstanding of how galvanic corrosion works, but some have reported that it seems to help.

I figure if it seems to help, it's worth a try . . . but I'm not very optimistic that it will really make a difference.

If your hood is clean so far, hopefully you are one of the lucky ones and it won't happen. Just don't look at the seams on the bottom of the hood, because you might be disappointed! LOL

Well you know I am going to go look now. What am I looking for exactly? I recall seeing a thread or reading something somewhere a long time ago, but brushed it off since it looks fine to me. Will be looking tonight.

Again I don't mean to hijack the thread topic.

Well, the hood should be grounded anyways. Only way it wouldn't be is if car was painted with the hood off the car and when hood is installed with paint on paint. From the factory it's grounded though since it's metal on metal.

Is it OK to hijack an old thread when the OP already got their answer? LOL, I hope so . . .

Look at the seams on the bottom of the hood, about 1" in from the edges. If you see any bubbles in the paint, it's starting . . .

I'm sorry, you might barely be able to see what I did if you open this picture up to be bigger. I zipped tied mine to the strut.
