isn't it illegal to disable safety features that came with the car??? In Canada, i am sure i could not remove the airbag. Same for safety belt, if i installed a harness in my car, i would still have to buckle up the stock safety belt to drive legally on public roads

Most of the statistics used to prove air bags save lives are based on lives saved in frontal collisions where the occupant was not wearing a seat belt. The difference between air bag and non-air bag use among crashes where the occupant was wearing a proper 3-point safety belt is actually very small. The safety belt is the biggest savior - it is estimated that proper use of safety belts improves survival rates by two thirds... far more than any air bag.

Those who claim things like "an airbag will prevent dangerous injuries from hitting the steering wheel" must not have thought it through because a safety belt does the same thing - the air bag is redundant for that particular case.

And "the air bag didn't deploy in a rear end collision"... of course not - they're not designed to deploy in that situation.

Personally, I want the small additional safety of having an airbag but will do without until the parts are available to fix the shrapnel problem because living in the humid south where the problem is more common raises the odds to an unacceptable level for me.

How did I miss this gem?

Dogs are not our whole lives, but they make our lives whole.
Saving one dog will not change the world, but surely for that one dog, the world will change forever.
