Could the Shaker 8 inch door subs sound better?

What if they were removed from the doors and installed in proper boxes? I've been kicking that idea around lately...
Worth a shot, or total waste of time?

I think there are some posts on here somewhere, talking about how some guys lined the door with dynamat to make them sound better

Right. But what I'm considering is a bit different: I want to remove the subs from the doors entirely, mount them in boxes, run the wires to the trunk & put them back there. My theory is that if the subs are in appropriate-sized boxes, maybe they'll breathe a little heavier.

The door subs are junk. Get yourself a separate sub and amp.

If you want to put subs in the back, definitely don't use the door subs lol
