Type of brakes - what was changed when?

I'm looking to replace my pads and rotors because they feel like crap for some reason (maybe the pads just have something on them? The rotors are rusted anyway so I figured I'd just swap it all out and start fresh).

While looking into my options, I found that some say "fits mustangs from 5/3/12" or similar. Mine is a 2012 V6 Premium Vert, that was manufactured 04/11. Was there a change in the brake system for some reason? If so, what was changed when, and how do i know what I have?

PS - bonus points on recommendations for pads/rotors/brakes*
