Cool White Mustangs are cooler! (Confirmed)

The MythBusters used two identical cars, one black the other white and left them both out in the summer heat with thermometers in both. By mid-afternoon the black car had heated up to a temperature of 135 F while the white car topped off at 126 F, almost 10 degrees cooler.

Same can be said for under hood temperatures...

Other studies also conclude the cooler internal temperatures lead to better fuel economy due to lower cabin temperatures leading to less need for air conditioner use.

That's why white Mustangs are simply cooler!

I drive a black mustang, my younger brother a white focus

Its mind boggling the difference it makes in hot weather. You barely have to touch the AC in his when youd be roasting in my car.

Did the two cars they tested have identical interiors? While I'm completely sure their results are valid (the car's top probably taking in most of the heat to the cabin and probably also the hood making the underhood temperature hotter) the interior color by my seat-of-the-pants testing makes the biggest difference in cabin temperature. A black interior in the south and you've got a nice pressure-cooker going while you're away. I'd definitely take a black car with a light interior over the opposite.

Well, they may be cooler, but Black Mustangs are just bad a$$!

Seriously though, I've had both white and black vehicles, and I can say that yes, white vehicles are definitely cooler. We currently have two black vehicles, the Mustang, which is garage kept, and an Expedition, which gets parked on the driveway. I dread getting into the Expedition, it is insanely hot in there!

My girlfriends Mazda is a similar silver color, it stays much cooler than my car, but not as cool as my brother's white focus.

The cooler running temp is exactly why I got the silver over the grey or black. Even considered white, but like black, it's such a pita to keep white painted cars looking clean.

Here in S FL you can put you hands on two cars side by side and feel the difference, I have a white stang, yes it gets dirty but it doesn't look dirty compared to a black or Kona blue car. Tinted windows are a must as well as AC, you don't see many cars around here with out them.

^^I agree^^ the lighter colored cars are cooler, plus IMHOP- white & silver look cleaner than black cars longer. I swore I would never again own a black car, but the price on my Cobra just overruled my common sense. Also IMHOP, black cars look the best when cleaned & polished, but they are a royal PITA to keep that way & they show every chip, scratch, & swirl mark where a lot of other colors don`t.

106 F here in TX today... Personally I am happy I have a white Mustang.
BTW ask any auto body guy you want: Lighter colors also hide minor imperfections better than dark colors.

And on the interior colors being the say they were the same car other than the body color...

I believe it! My Mustang is the first, and likely last, black car I've ever owned. This is the first summer with it. It has been brutal.

It looks awesome when clean. Looks awesome for about 10 minutes that is. Then it has pollen and dust and crap all over it.

I need to get tint, wondering how much that would help.

In my experience, white has been pretty low maintenance. Love my performance white with stone interior.
