help some questions... please

I own a 2013 v6 mustang. Changed the oil yesteday. Went to my local car parts store and asked them to set me up with oil and filter. They gave me 5w 20 gtx castrol oil and a napa filter. Question is the castrol gtx oil synthetic oil? It does not specify synthetic on web site or on container. And is it safe to use on these cars if its not synthetic? This was my first oil change so I'm not sure? I've heard of people using a product called royal purple. Is this a better oil to use in the car? If this is not the right oil can I just drain it and use the right oil? Please advise.

if the oil does not specify synthetic or synth blend on the label then it isn't. to my knowledge this won't be a problem, just be sure to change it at 3000 miles

Royal Purple is supposed to be some high quality stuff. It'll be a little more expensive though. They make good filters as well.

Ok did some reading on this form as well as online and castrols web site and I think kona is right. Non synthtics don't last as long. There is no ill effects of switching fron synthtc to non synthetics. However synthetics are better protection for your engine and will last longer. And yes snthetic blends will also be normal expensive. However synthetics yield better performance than non synthetic blends. Thanks guys, learn something everyday.

If its a non-synthetic or non-synthetic blend then it's dino-oil which has a much shorter usable life.

You could have bought Motorcraft 5w20 synthetic blend at Walmart, cheap. Just saying....

Change your oil when ever you want. If 3,000 miles makes you happy, do it. I 'overkill' my oil changes too. I change my oil every 6 months which is only 1,800 to 2,700 miles with Motorcraft 'full' synthetic

I have to buy the Motorcraft full synthetic oil from my local Ford dealer

Nothing wrong with Castrol GTX. It is not synthetic, but it is a good oil. No engine has to run on full synthetic, its a matter of choice. True enough, "they say" the synthetics can be left in there for longer periods. But personally, i like to change my oil when it looks dirty, regardless on whether it is synthetic or not. Any good oil and filter will work. You cant hurt anything by using a conventional oil as opposed to a synthetic.
It all boils down to how often you change it. And how fat your wallet is.

^ 8,000KM or 6 months is when i change mine. Although considering i drive 8,000Km in ~3 months i never see the 6 month timeframe.
