MotorTrend became a pure advertiser years ago and their "reviews" reflect this IMO, so take it all with a grain of salt.

so the argument from the FRS/BRZ fanboys has always been that if you ditched the "prius" tires it would destroy the mustang. Hilarious to see that's not true at all.

Hell, its a loaded up V6 NON performance package car on performance all seasons (2nd test) and the BRZ just barely edges it out by .1 on extreme summer tires.

Delicious tears.

OK so they claim they want to compare "tires" and then they swap out the rims with each different set of tires as well... Someone needs to point out that's not comparing "tires" that's a tire/wheel combination test and they never even address the rim/tires size/weight differences at all.
Notice ALL the tires they showed lined up for the mustang were the same physical height, but the three tires for the BRZ the last tire was visibly shorter than the other 2 and surprise! they saw a marked improvement with the shorter tires.

BTW could this "little" driver be even more biased please?

The BRZ and FRS are both actually Toyota's simply wrapped in other name plates.

I could stomach no more and did not bother to watch the BMW runs.

This is useless drivel meant to only prod the sheeple out there into buying things...

I assume you have never experienced extreme performance summer tires then? They stick like F***ing glue in a turn compared to max performance summer tires. Although the sorter diameter is definitely only going to help. I assure you, Extreme performance summer tires are worth seconds regardless of diameter change. If they were autocrossing, the time reduction would have been much greater.

Actually I ran low profile Hoosiers when I won my class in SCCA SOLO II so yes I actually do know what real "stickies" are and I can tell you they were far more sticky than anything they have in this video.

The real performance difference is in the diameter and over all weight change per tire/wheel combo for acceleration, deceleration and handling with the shorter sidewall, as it was said they were running stock, summer, then max performance summer on each car. But they did change rims and from the looks of it aspect ratio of the one set the BRZ had which ruins a true tire comparison.

The fastest car was the Mustang. The Subaru would have to be turbo charged, which is much more expensive than the minor suspension mods to upgrade the Mustang.
And at the cost of a BMW and it didn't beat the Stang?

I agree with this 100%. It's when I watched a MotorTrend video comparing a 580hp Camaro ZL1 and 444hp Boss 302, well, guess witch one came out on top......the ZL1 of course. GM must have paid big bucks for that one and I think MotorTrend is a bunch of BS. If they did a comparison between the ZL1 and a Shelby Supersnake, they would find all kinds of faults with the Shelby I'm sure!

A Mustang without an independent rear end suspension beat a Subaru and BMW? This can't be true! skep.gif
