2011 Manual V6 - lost 3rd and 4th gears - help!

Good day everyone, about a month ago at 65,000 miles (how convenient for Ford) I lost 3rd and 4th. Dealership looked at it and wants minimum of $3,000 for a rebuild or replacement. I drove away to research further. Majority of miles are highway and I never dumped the clutch to smoke the tires. I can on occasion get it into 3rd at 1,100 rpm.

Couple of questions for everyone, especially members in central PA...
1. Does anyone know of a reputable transmission shop within an hours drive of Lancaster, PA.?
2. Do you recommend a rebuild or rebuilt Chinese transmission with warranty or spend the $ for a Tremec transmission?

I realize there are other variables such as it could be other components that may have failed. I'm looking at worse case scenarios.

Thanks, Ben

Thats too bad, when you lose a gear, complete gearbox failure usually follows shortly. Id look for a junkyard tranny with low miles. If youre lucky, its something in the shifter linkage, 3 and 4 being in the same gate.

I'm hoping for a linkage issue. Since it's beyond the drivetrain warranty I'm moving forward with finding a reputable shop here in PA. Thanks for advice.

The Tremec kit for the V6 isn't available yet so unless you are willing to wait a few months then you will need to fix yours.

Have you done a google search for manual transmission shops in your area?

Probably cost half or less than what the dealer is telling you.

Yes, I've been doing research via Google. I didn't know the tremec was still not available for the v6. Thanks for the info.

You may be crunched for time, but if and when a Tremec is available for your V6, that's the way to go. If you sink a lot of money into your MT82, you may still be disappointed. Just my .02, for whatever its worth.

Plus, if cost is a concern to you then the Tremec wouldn't be an option, will probably be looking at $4K for a complete conversion, and that's not including the installation, just parts.

Try calling these guys, Justin is a straight up guy, you can tell him Race Part Solutions sent you. I would bet it is something very simple, if you can get the tranny out and take it to a shop it shouldn't cont nearly as much as what Ford is saying, I would bet it would be a few hours labor and then what ever shaft, clip, lever broke. Look at it this way, it's probably time for a clutch so upgrade that and fix the tranny.

I agree with Kerrdog. If you are capable of pulling it yourself and taking it to a reputable shop, you will be much better off. Worst case.. if it's in bad shape, you can pick up a used one. There is one currently on Ebay for $850.

although.. it's from a GT (different gear ratios) not sure how that would work with a 3.7.

Nope, GT transmission won't bolt to the back of the motor, bellhousing pattern is different.

If it would then you could use the Tremec kit for the GT in a V6, but it won't.

I take it the bellhousing isn't removable as it is on some transmissions?

Nope, not like a regular bellhousing.

Figures. Too bad. Guess that keeps us from swapping to a BMW mt82.
