Unhappy Traction control freaking out

Last night I took off from a stop, went to third gear like normal and then took it out of gear to coast. As soon as I took it out of gear the traction control light came on and the computer hit the breaks fairly hard. Then it let off the breaks and the light went out. It did this about seven times in a row and then stopped. Each time lasted about two seconds. The lights stayed off after that.

Later that night both the traction control and the traction control off lights blinked about four times without hitting the breaks. Then went out and stayed out.

I talked to my service manager and he said it would be a pain to diagnose. I thought I would ask you guys if you've seen this problem before and if it was an expensive fix. It's my only vehicle so I will have to make arrangements for transportation before I can leave it for god knows how long.

Have the dealer flash the computer, possibly new tires may be the issue as well

I'll be sure they flash the computer. The tires have been on it for a while.

Common issue with these cars...and common for the dealer to brush it under the rug instead of trying to figure out the problem

haha well the first time it slams on the breaks when I'm driving down the highway it's getting towed to their doorstep. If I'm alive that is.

Mine has almost killed me on the highway in perfect driving conditions, twice. Ford won't look into it because they can't reproduce the error (and to their credit, neither can I). I just started driving with traction control off and it's no longer an issue

Yeah but the traction control helps a lot when it's working. I don't suppose yours started right after the warranty expired? Nothing like riding a 3000 lb missile with a software glitch.

What are our legal rights when it comes to having a wreck that is caused by a software glitch in an out of warranty car?

OP, this has happened to a number of people, mine did it once for sure and once maybe. Unless it does it often or you have an excellant dealer I would ignore it. That is what I would do but the decision is yours....good luck.

as far as legal rights if you can prove the accident was caused by the T/C you have a good case but key word is prove.

Oh thank you for linking that thread. I will keep my eye on it.

I've been thinking about using my gopro as a dash cam. Or just getting a real dash cam. Simply because drivers around here are nuts. Do you know how much one of those flight recorders costs?
