Anyone swapped out their Performance Pack summer tires out for all season tires? I live in Minnesota and lose a month or more of driving my 17 Mustang GT since these summer tires are pretty worthless even on a clear, warm day if the temp is 40 degrees. Even at 50 degrees those summer tires are questionable.
Looking for a nice performance tire but not a summer tire.
I got a steal on a new set of Uniroyal Tiger Paw Touring A/S All-Season tires, recently. My car's not running yet, and I haven't got them on, but they look great and reviews say they're pretty good. I'm sure looking forward to trying 'em out. It was mighty hard to argue with the price - I got them for only $68/tire
Edit: Aw, crud. Just realized that this thread's not in the 'classic' forums - so these tires aren't too likely to be right for your 2015+ Mustang. They'll be great for my 53+ year old Cougar though.
The Michelin Pilot Sport A/S 3+ and the Continental Extreme Contact DWS06 are generally considered to be the best of the high performance all seasons.
My wife's Dodge came with Yokohama Avid high performance all seasons and i put the DWS06 on last fall and the improvement in handling, comfort and road noise was amazing.
I had nitto nt555 g2 305/35/19 and those tires will get you killed. They let go where Costco tires half the size hold. So trashed them for bfg gforce comp2. Best tire I have ever run so far
I went with Sumitomo only because I know that they use to own Dunlop before selling that name brand to Good Year in the 90's and I always ran Dunlop tires. Their pricing is reasonable because they don't advertise like big guys.
I'm running Good year Eagle Asymmetrical A/S. They handle well, and came with a $200 rebate. If I had the money, I would have went with the Michelin A/S.
Some great suggestions. Thanks. I had my oil changed at the dealership last week. The tech told me I am going to need rear tires by the end of summer. 6500 miles on my 2017 Mustang and I need rear tires already. Wonder how that happened.
suggestion: watch your local Craig's List, the Forum "for sale" sections, and e-bay for a cheap set of take-off wheels with all-season tires.
Then you can keep your summer tires and good wheels for the summer, and have another set of wheels with all-season tires for the cold months. Better yet, if you are driving the Mustang through the winter, get a real set of winter snow tires for the winter wheels.
This might cost a little more up front, but you will quickly recover that investment in time and money because you can change the wheels yourself, instead of paying a shop to change the tires twice a year.
I am usingNitto tires(NT555 G2)for almost two years now, and I am impressed with its performance. My favorite thing about this tire is it provides good traction on the road especially in summer. I would recommend you check out 4wheelonline if you are still in search of a tire set for an affordable price.
My ‘95 has had the first gen nt555’s on it forever now, (it’s not driven much) and they’re ok enough. They’re not that great at the drag strip but they’ve handled well on the twisty roads. I have the G2’s on my fwd sedan. They’ve been ok as well but they’re due for replacing with a little over 36k on them.
As for an all season goes, I had the nitto motivos on my sedan prior to the nt555 g2’s and they were a quiet good handling tire. I took a trip to the ozark mountains in it one summer when the motivos were new and they handled to mountain curves like a boss. I was hammering on it hard enough to make my wife mad and they were rock steady.
Continental DWS6 nothing better for the money.....period; especially in the wet cold. A pretty fair summer tire as well, but not a good as a pure summer high performance like the Michelin Pilot Sports. Add in the long tread life and they pay for themselves. I started my second set at 40K miles. They are supposed to last 50K, but of course aggressive driving will shorten the life of any tire.
