I would suspect the cable at this point if you are sure it's not the clutch. If it is not fully disengaging while you are pushing in the pedal, it will shutter and make your rpm's drop. Also, shudder when taking off is usually a sign of hot spots on your flywheel caused by such.(Or symptoms of a new driver as you stated above)
