They could be related... Was the coolant system recently flushed and properly refilled? Make sure all the air was blead out. Since coolant lines run to the transmission, it could cause the issuea there...
However, what is the condition of your tranny fluid? Is it full and red? If its dark/black: time for a fluid (and maybe filter) change. If it's just low: look for leaks & refill.
