Need Help, Overheating on trip

So i am 200 miles away from my house. I was cruising along and next thing i see my temp gauge pings so i immediately pull over because i had an issue like this before. A couple months ago i had a new thermostat put in and lower piping cause it was plugged and have not had an issue since. I let it cool and started it up because i am in the middle of nowhere in athens ohio. I do not think my fan was turning on when i was driving because when i started it back up the car started to cool. I need some opinions on what it could be before i head home tomorrow.
