Anyway, yes I am serious about accelerating
at close-to WOT -- but then once you get up to speed, get into the highest gear possible ASAP.
Think about it: you need to get from 0-35mph in some manner. That requires a certain amount of work, regardless of how fast you do it. Since your engine burns most effeciently at peak torque (which is close to WOT), that's where you want to be getting the work out of the car.
