You need to get the numbers off the carb and find out exactly what size it is because it sounds like it's too big for the engine. Too many people oversize carbs, thinking they need a large one when in reality they don't.
Holley carbs are a pain, when you don't know what you're doing. Get them right, you won't have any problems with it. You have to find out what you have first.
Oil burning is a light blue color, not almost black. Not black at all.
