IMO the goal for the V6 was solid street performance and fuel economy. The driveshaft on the car was designed to aid fuel economy and keep H rated tires as original equipment. Using the V6 model to keep CAFE numbers down helps keep the GT, Boss, and GT500 more viable for Ford which is why I'm pretty sure an Ecoboost 4-cylinder will be coming to next generation Mustangs.
