Exactly this. For me snow tires are not even remotely an option. They are completely necessary. I don't buy the good driver/bad driver argument. If you need to slam on the brakes or perform an evasive maneuver on all season tires in icy or snowy conditions, it does not matter how good of a driver you are. Even F1 drivers will slam into a sidewall if they have no traction.
Actually, I do buy the good/bad driver argument. Good drivers without winters stay home.
