The old fuse pull trick was originated to clear trouble codes in GM vehicles, I used it several times in my `98 Formula. The PCM does have a driver input memmory as stated but when pulling the fuse or dissconnecting the battery it take time (usually 100 miles) for the system to readapt. So effectively all your doing is resetting it back to a default. In all my years of running LS cars at the track we never did this as track prep.
My Formula was my daily driver/weekend warrior just like my Mustang. IMO this is part of the beauty of modern muscle, exceptional driveability, and Raw HP when you want it.
