If you ask me the entire article is based on flawed logic, that if you want a convertible, anything in the category is up for consideration.
I will admit the convertible version of the new Beetle is less ungainly than the fixed roof versions, but not much. I have thought these cars all along were a huge miss. The relentless devotion to making it round is a parody of the original and the execution is function follows form, not the classic VW mantra form follows function.
In other words, its awkward and ugly and even with all that interior space the ergonomics are crap and the sight line out the windshield is compromised for the shape.
A real Beetle would be a fun car to have but I'd feel pretty silly piloting a New Beetle.
PS Guys in "skinny jeans" make me giggle. Guys in skinny jeans striking a pose with a red New Beetle convertible make me LMFAO.
