4r70w guys...let's talk

So as a few of you may know I bought the car to manual swap.
My last SN was a bolt on 5.4, and my t45 didn't care for either 5th or reverse..go figure.

Well a decision was made about the car when I realized what I yanked out of it.
Drag car.

Suddenly my automatic is looking promising.
I've still gotten 85% of the stuff for a manual swap.

So here goes...

Important or not...top speed? Yes
.I've been known on a quiet night to peg a speedometer..
Is a the 4r70w geared well enough for at least 150?
Assuming power and probably a 4.10 rear.
Stupid I know...But i fully digress to burying a needle once in a blue moon.
Safety and such aside...i am well aware..Germany spoiled me.

My immature question aside...let's talk business.
Let's keep it stock stall for now..

I'm assuming J Mod is high on the list...along with some fresh fluid and attention.
The trans will hold 400tq?
Even with the automatic power loss..I figure a spray of nitrous can still make good torque.

Secondly...adding a secondary cooler, yay or nay?
Not going to lie...I upshift 98% of the time.
Holding til around 2500...stock gearing..
But I don't downshift, and only go to 1 at a dead stop.
But it was meant to be yanked.

Now if memory serves, an auto is a prime drag machine. Granted I said no stall...unless I keep it.
But the shock is generally less to the axles, it's rated for more power than a T45 anyway.
And I suppose PI swapped I may be able to get to 250hp/300tq...not that I'm gunning for numbers..
But I'm sure many would agree, it's nice to have a gaol, just because.

My plan assuming the auto stays..
Mac longtubes(hoping to offset the HP deficit of not going 5spd)

But I've been reading some bad things about nitrous and the t45.

So before I finalize a purchase.

I'm trying to get solid info from guys with autos.
So hopefully I'll get answers and advice.

It just hit me last night...I'm building a drag car...why not be consistent, and put the swap money, into power/suspension

But nothing is set.
Well, the car has a purpose, but now at the crunch time...I'm in crisis.

Let's bat this??

Will the stock tune even let the auto redline in "high gear?" With 4.10's you won't get close to 150 at redline in 3rd and I imagine it'd take every bit of 6k rpm in 4th to get to 150 as well.
But yeah an auto is the way to go for drag racing as long as your car is making enough power.

For what it's worth, when my '95 was brand new and stock, the most it would do is 130 mph in 4th down a steep hill. It is a 5 speed. 150 might be a tall order either way. You'll probably want a higher stall and a trans cooler.

Figured...
But wanted to ask.
I've seen mach 1s bury the needle.
But they have more rev and hp.

Well, it definitely loses appeal for driving....

But that's about the only loss.
So...sticky tires, suspension...assuming stock stall.
Would high 12s be feasible?

Not with a "non PI" topend, you might get a high to mid 13.
I think with a drag suspension and slicks you could get a 12 w a PI topend.

J-Mod and a stall would out perform 99% of the drivers out there with manuals.

Less fun to drive I guess but who cares. I would have an auto if I could, just can't feasibly do the swap at the moment. If Drag Racing is your main priority, go Auto if you can.

Not that my car is fast, but with my 4R70W I can reel off the exact same 1/4 mile times down to the tenth over and over and over again.

Last time I was at the track, they said my car would make a great bracket racing car.

Add a trans brake and a stall and it would be a GREAT bracket racer...I will have an auto in mine eventually.

Already PI swapped it.
Already started tastefully gutting it.
Normal bolt ons, plus spray.
Will be running 275/50/15 drag radials.
Basically my initial setup.

But as it is, I redline 3rd around 140.
Cheating...verified on a dyno. But hey it's legal and safe.

I'm currently looking at 3.73s.
Or going with my original plan when I bought it, t45 swap it.

I fully understand this is probably the dumbest reason in the world for a transmission decision...
But unless I'm running 9s...
I refuse to top out in an American [email protected]
And I won't be running 9s....

That aside.
If I keep it.
I've got a lead on getting a built 500hp 4r70w
Will get a cooler and stall.
And spray in first.

Why?
31 spline rear end haha

I've been all over the net for this question.
It will do everything but one thing...
But I'm not making a drastic move until April.

I'll finish the build and run the track.
Hoping to be done by mid month....if my stuff will ship...
