New to rebuilding a 4.6, question on parts

I just got a junk 96 mustang with a 04 police 4.6 DOHC, I am going to rebuild my first engine and want to make it beefy, as in scary as hell idling. Would someone suggest engine parts to buy to get started, I also have a mechanic friend that will over see me doing it, I want to do most of it.

Are you looking into boost or wanting to stay NA? A member named lwarrior has what I would call a nasty NA setup. I would listen to what he says once he chimes in if you want to build an NA motor.

For starters you should look into the Comp XE270 cams which wil give you the idle lope. Port match the heads, put some longtube headers and an offroad midpipe to go with it and you'll be on your way.

Don't forget to get a good set of valve springs and retainers, and replace the timing chains/guides/tensioners if it's a high mileage engine.
Piston choice will depend on if you want to keep the stock bore/stroke, and whether you're wanting boost or go NA. A stroker kit can be costly because it requires a new crank, whereas stock cranks have survived
under boost in a lot of cars.

Also, are you sure that it's a DOHC engine? All the Crown Vic interceptors I know are SOHC 2v. Unless you mean the engine came from a Marauder but that seems unlikely.

Awe, thanks @40th GT

OP, let's find out exactly what engine you have. The police part doesn't matter because the engine is the same, but we need to be sure of 2v or 4v. Then let's find out what the end goal is.

1998 GT
Rebuild in the works. New crank, 2013 Boss rods, srp .020 over flat top pistons with valve reliefs, 12:1 compression, ported pi heads, comp xe278ah cams.
