2004 Mustang GT horsepower?!

Whats up guys? Well I was just a bit dissapointed because I am probably buying a 04' Gt, and I was all exited till I found out it has 235RWHP. Is this true? Reason being because I wanted to massacre my freinds ls1 trans am, thinking the gt had 300 hp.

Anyways, if it is 235, how can I make to 300 with the cheapest bolt-ons available.Excluding superchargers of course.:hihi: Thanks in advance.

If you want 300rwhp, you need full bolt ons + cams. LTs, mid pipe, catback, tune, intake, udp's(wouldn't hurt if you dont plan on FI), upper plenum, TB, and mild cams. LS1's don't piss around.

99' Rio Red Mustang GT:
Summit O/R H, MAC Flowpaths Turndowns, BBK Shorty Headers, Steeda UDP, K&N FIPK2 intake, Diablosport Delta chip, BBK 75mm throttle body, Trickflow upper plenum, Intake spacer, H&R SS springs, Cross drilled & slotted rotors, "Functional" hood scoop

They will kick your arse and be a mile ahead before you know it. A 2004 GT has 260HP... 235RWHP though. Just to make that clear. I don't know mcuh about the Trans Ams but I'm sure you would get smoked. On top of the bolt-ons you would probably need 3.73's or 4.10's.

Money wise... just throwing out a high number... 3k. Depends on if you do it yourself or have a shop do it. If you do it yourself probably 2k or less.

Thanks for the info. I'v never been on a 04' GT, but I have been on an 05' GT and an 2002 Trans am Ws6. So I know what 300 HP feels like.(neck snapping)lol! About the expeirience, yeah I can do all the work. My dads a mechanic and I also have some skills. What would yall say? Should I upgrade the 04' or should I save up for an S197? (honestly)

i would put gears in first at least 3.73. then go for a good cam setup, and a tune. with a good set of tires that should put you in the neighborhood of an ls1.

Keep in mind that while the S197's gained 40hp they also gained over 400lbs of weight. So I'd say get the '04 and spend the money you save on some modifications.

2003 Mustang GT, P&P Plenum, P&P BBK 75mm TB, K&N drop-in, O/R X-Pipe, SLP LoudmouthII exhaust, Mach 1000 audio system.

Although those are all good suggestions I think you should think about what you're buying this car for. If you're buying a mustang to beat a friends camaro, you're really starting from way behind. The S197 is a better choice, but I think it's a pointless reason to buy a car regardless.

Its 40 crank hp, and over 400lbs. PLUS, they cost more. With that extra cash you can come out on top of a 05+ easily. A new edge gt with some bolt ons can burn a s197 with ease. And parts are cheaper and more plentiful.

Winning the bolt-on war against an LS1 with an SOHC 4.6 is nearly impossible. Bone stock they make 300rwhp. A cam alone is worth another 30-50rwhp.

You can do the full bolt-on thing with cams, LTs, etc, but you're still only going to be in near stock LS1 territory.

Boost or spray is the secret to dispatching LS1s. Just pray they're not spraying too. I knew a guy with a 10-second LS1 that only had a cam, LT's, and a 150 shot.

Yeah thats true, if you just want to beat him put some NOS is cheaper and will give more hp for the buck. and then keep adding a little by little some bolt-ons...

Thanks. No I'm not buying a Mustang to beat my friends Trans am.(that would be silly):hihi:. This is actually going to be my very first car. I'm still thinking about the 2v vs 3v, but like someone said already, the 3v has only 40hp more to the crank. Is that right?
