MUFFLERS OFF? good or bad?

ok guys ,i have my 97 gt stock,and dont have money yet to fix up the exaust to give it a mean loud noise.i was wondering if i should just chopp of the mufflers,and keep all cats.now wat would be the good thing about it?will it be too loud?? will it sound bad??? gain any hp? tq?......if any bad stuff wat would it be?? lose hp?? tq? they told me my back pressure will suffur.wat is the back pressure for??? srry for all the questions hopefully some one will help me out. thanks
and if any one has this on their car can u post a vid ..thanks

Bad idea. It will be loud and sound like crap. Better off to get an offroad midpipe, you can get one on ebay for under $100, it'll sound better and benefit the car. As far as back pressure, losing the mufflers and keeping the cats won't really hurt it, but you won't like the result. Back pressure, while not an issue with your question, helps with scavanging and benefits lower rpm power.

Hey...I like the way my car sounds w/o mufflers.

If you gain or lose power, it's not enough to be noticeable.

Cops love it too.
