Pioneer touchscreen dvd headunit

I found a pioneer avh-p4000dvd touchscreen double din headunit for sale. ($290 shipped) is this a good deal? Has anyone owned or used a pioneer touch headunit? How hard is it to install? What do you all think in general?

Good...bad...? Look it up.. lol

Thanks,
Steven

That is the bottom of the barrel Pioneer, but still an OK unit if you don't care about all the audiophile features of a more expensive unit, such as parametric EQs, 3 way crossovers, etc.

I have a Clarion double din in mine, and I had to modify the install kit to get it to fit. It still looks great, but if you get really close, you can see that I did not use the beauty ring, and I had to cut the top bar out of the kit to allow the face to fit all the way through where it looked natural. Not a big deal at all.

I have to add, if you have Mach 460, and want to keep the factory amps and speakers, make sure you get the correct harness. The correct one will have RCA plugs that goes into the new headunit. If you try to use the other one, the only thing that will work are the tweeters, you'll have no door or rear woofers.

Thanks...all of that is very good to know.

So if i want a touchscreen headunit and only have 300$ to spend what should i get? Is this the best for $300 -? I mean its better than a jensen flip up correct?

yes, it's definately better than the Jensen. I would say for $300, that's about as good as you're going to get. Adding features always adds money, unfortunately.

The Clarion I have is now available for $450 since it's last year's model, and has built in Navigation, so for Navigation capable, I think that's about as cheap as you can get with some quality.

****THREAD HI-JACK*****

Bullitt, or any one that knows, I have a question for you regarding this thread.

When you install an aftermarket head unit with your Mach460 system, should sound quality suffer? When I installed my double DIN unit in my car, the sound was noticeably different. It sounded like the audio was out of phase...like the polarity of every speaker was switched. I did buy a harness with RCA jacks to just plug and play. I know its connected 100% good. There is no chance of faulty connection or switched wires; so lets rule that out.

I'm almost convinced that my head unit is the problem. Its a XO Vision double DIN DVD player. I know I have a POS brand head unit, but will that be the cause of the audio sound quality? I don't have any engine noise, or weird noises. It sounded way better with the stock units. It bothered me at first but I guess over time, I just got used to it.

How was your sound quality (assuming you have a Mach460 system) before and after you installed your head unit?

My Sound Quality improved over the Mach 460 headunit, honestly.

What year is your car? There's a couple different harnesses depending on the year.

For 01-03 with Mach 460 or Mach 1000, the part is the Metra 70-5519.
