Short Shifters

Was just wondering if they are worth the money investing in? Car is just a daily driver, not used for racing or anything. thx

2Manystangs 10-03-2011 09:04 PM

absolutely, best $179 you'll ever spend...get a Pro 5.0:bigthumbsup

they do make driving the car pretty fun.. but if its just a daily driver.. i would try to find a cheaper one.

or, if you go with a short throw shifter from UPR Products, it'll be just as good as the Pro 5.0, but it'll be the best $135 you ever spent!

Here is the 99-01 shifter:
79-01 Mustang T-5/T-45 Shifter & X-Factor Trick Stick Package

Here is the 01-04 shifter:

Well remember the shifter is the one thing you have the most interface with, it should be the best you can get...really, you'll be stunned at how much better it can get, almost like you want to slap a ford engineer and ask them how the stock one could be so bad

Are they easy to install by yourself? Or is it better to get a pro to do it?

willyg1997 10-06-2011 12:59 PM

Easy to install. Even tho you do not race it you probably get on it once in a while, its a stang. The stock aluminum shift forks are weak (to say the least), and your new short thro shifter with the positive stops will help minumize the stress put on your forks by over shifting with your stock shifter.

I have a 5.0, but never used any other, so i cant say what is the best. I do like mine.

Instead of the '03 I'm now getting an '05, any suggestions as to a good short shifter for that year?

Thanks. I agree! (and I've had our shifters on most of my own cars, from Foxes to New Edge, and S197 Mustangs)
