New to the forums, looking at 4.6L S95 cars

So I would introduce myself here. I don't actually own a mustang but am mechanically inclined. My dad has an 08 GT 5 speed with an intake, axleback and sct tune. I currently have an 04 LS1 GTO 6 speed.

I joined the forums to get some information on those 96-98 GT 4.6L cars. My girlfriend has been driving my dad's 08 GT for the past month or two and really likes it. Now I know the 3V motors are a lot better than the 2V and especially the non pi motors. She found a 98 GT 5 speed bone stock for a good price. How well do they respond to mods. I know that it is not going to be a rocket but what can we expect out of one in the 1/4 mile with basic bolt ons, and is there anything specific to look out for on them. For reference here in AZ I was able to pull a 13.9 @101 in the 08 GT bone stock and she was able to do a couple 14.3's

the non pi 4.6's are really pretty gutless and with basic bolt ons you may be able to hit 14.3 with some practice, but more realistically 14.5ish with the standard bolt ons (intake, tune, exhaust, etc.)

but if you could spare the extra few grand and get a 99-04GT or did a pi swap on the non pi motor, then you can see mid 13's all day long with basic bolt ons

How are the shortblocks on them? Throwing a set of cams and heads on it wouldnt be a big deal. Im sure she would be happy trapping 105 or so.

the blocks (i believe, dont 100 percent quote me on this) are pretty strong, and the internals can take up to about 400 horsies without being forged.

trapping 105 shouldnt be a problem with a PI swap

Yeah we found a 5 speed with a recent rebuild on the trans, new clutch, 98, all stock 85k miles IIRC and wants to trade for her econobox and a few hundred.

id say jump on it if the trans work has the proper paperwork and it looks/drives nice.

find the parts for a pi swap, and you will have a VERY nice running mustang
