2000 crown vic police weird noise from under hood

hey guys i was wanting to know if any one has had this problem during warm up period but when she is warming up and if i have to drive the car during warm up the engine idle goes up in rpm and there is this strange loud humming noise like an electric motor humming but what ever it is it controls the idle speed it will even do it if sitting still and i give the pedal a small bump with the toe on accident almost sound as if it is coming from the cruise control unit but i haven't been under hood so i am not positive where it could be coming from please help thanks

Sounds like your IAC (idle air control) valve.

Is it giving you any problems, or just the noise? I've heard the best policy is just to man up and get a genuine Motorcraft from the dealer, as the off-brand aftermarket ones like Autozone and others carry are known to produce mixed levels of success.

It's the noise Plus high idle when it does it but the gas pedal don't move down when it does it that is why I was thinking it might not of been the cruise unit just figured I would post it to see if anyone else had the same problem

I will do that but the sound seems to be coming from near the driverside fender almost as if the cruise control tries to kick on its weird cause the cruise doesn't work

as soon as it stops freezing balls out side I will actually check all vac lines. I hope this snow crap goes away, I have to do the tie rods and ball joints on the car but I may have to risk driving it to my spinal surgeon on the 4th
