4.6 DOHC Mach 1

New to the site, but starting to get a game plan together for a Mach 1 build. I want to stay N/A, and hope fully make around 600 RWHP.
I want to start with a Teksid block and go with a large over bore and short stroke. I have heard good and bad about SHM products and was thinking of going with their heads and cams. I have also been looking for light weight cranks as this will be a high rpm motor. But I haven't had much luck in this area.
Any ideas or thoughts from all of you guys would be great, thanks

600, at the tires? N/A?

Probably not gonna happen dude. Not with anything that remotely resembles a 4.6 anyway. You might be able to get a little north of the 400 mark, but realistically that's about it.

If ya wanna make that kind of power out of a 4.6, regardless of valve count, S/C, turbo or N2O is the only way it's going to happen.

I think it's do-able. I've got a buddy who runs a 00 cobra N/A he puts down roughly 510. I've seen the dyno sheets and I'm gonna follow his build to start but end up a bit different on the top end as far as HCI goes. Not to say it will be easy or cheap, I think it can be done

Well then I wish ya nothing but the best of luck with it

What's your friends build consist of? All the time I've wasted on the interwebz I've just never seen anybody making that kind of power with these engines without a power adder. Everybody who knows their sh!t and has the credit card bills and busted knuckles to prove it would generally say that although 400rw+ n/a is possible, it's likely to be unstreetable and definitely not cost efficient. Being that you have a 4V that helps, but with your stated goal of 600rw you've definitely got an uphill battle through mud and snow ahead of you.

Off the top of my head it's a teksid block (early model) .060 over, eagle crank and rods, diamond pistons, I believe ford GT heads totally reworked, custom cams( don't have the specs yet) and an MMR cobra intake, kooks long tubes and Dr Gas x pipe

On my 2v 4.6L I'd like to push out maybe just 35 rwhp more, or 300 crank horse. But anything past that I'd go FI to because of how effective they are. It was a lot easier to build a 383 OHV and get decent power out of it, but these motors, bleh, FI all the way. So I agree with you.

I gots a mustang, that be why I here.

Just a point of reference...a coyote with headwork, cams, Boss manifold, built rotating assembly, and spinning to 7800rpm makes 525ish at the wheels.

00 cobra would be a y2k cobra r, which has a 5.4 Dohc. So it has a slight advantage to making more horsepower tho.

[/SIGPIC]2001 mustang gt - accufab throttle body/plenum and intake spacer, airaid cold air intake, ram hdx stage 1 clutch, optima yellow top battery , 3.73 gears with fresh replacement of bearings, sr short throw shifter, much more to come .

Only the very limited Cobra R had the 5.4.

The best place to go for all your engine needs is Excessive Motorsports in Longwood, Fl.. Call up Jordan way better work than any MMR stuff. He'll be the man that can get you close to your HP needs.

And that would be the only cobra made in 2000 so if his is really a 2000 cobra then it would have to be a Cobra R.

Fun fact: Ford actually produced approx. 500 Cobra Mustangs for the '00 model year that were not the "R" model. They were all exported to Australia.

Wow didn't know that, that's pretty cool I'm going to look that up now. They must have been testing the waters on a different market or something.

Are you sure you are not referring to the 2002 cobra? I know all of them where shipped to Austrailia. If I'm correct all of 2000 cobras where 5.4 cobra R.
