JonR2006 Official Build Thread

This is long overdue. Thanks to lwarrior, I'm finally getting this done.

Bare with me on this first post as I will go through the history of my car and where it's at now. I will list all mods at the bottom of the thread.

Bought my 2001 Mustang Gt Convertible in April 2012 for $6,995. It had 137k miles on it. Bone stock. 5 speed. It was a dream come true...I had wanted a mustang since I could remember.

It's Laser Red, tan top, tan interior.

It is my DAILY DRIVER....still...by DAILY DRIVER I mean, rain/snow/ice/sleet/hot/cold/sunny/cloudy I drive it. If it's broke I don't go to work (unless my parents' mustang is accessible).

I kept it stock for awhile. I bought some stupid mods at first (TB spacer, some K&N intake thing that was not a full CAI).

The "real" mods began about 2.5 years ago. I started with bolt ons (TB/Plenum/CAI, midpipe, exhaust). I kept the stock tune. Short throw Shifter. My car made 240wh/282wt at this point. Again, stock tune....I was running 14.0-14.1 @ 98/99 at the drag strip.

I moved on to suspension (springs, shocks/struts,cc plates, isolators, upper and lower control arms).

Finally got a tuner, 4.10s, under-drive pullies. I loaded the SCT canned 93 tune and got it dynoed again....225wh/260wt...yep, it went down. Same dyno, same conditions...

I then bought Bama tunes thinking that would fix it. I wish I got it dynoed after that but I didn't. Seemed to run better....I got down to a [email protected] with this setup. I contribute that gains to gears and driver-mod. Best 60ft was 1.9s

Then Last August came...my wife and I had our 5 year anniversary and we splurged on each other. She got me a NITROUS kit. I was ready for some real power. Got the Zex Kit and started with the 100 pills on the stock tune. Evenutally moved to the 125 pills on the stock tune. I ran a [email protected] (no traction) 2.1 60ft.

I got greedy...ordered the 150 pills and a boost a pump, backed off 5 degrees and ran a [email protected] (still no traction)...but I broke an exhaust valve (detonation kills). At the time my engine had 172k miles.

That brings us to now....

I most proud of the fact that I have done ALL MY OWN WORK. EVERYTHING on this car has been done on jack stands in a suburban garage with help from my dad and brother.

I need to compile all my pics. How do you embed into the body of the forum? I have googled this extensively and nothing seems to work.

Thanks. I'm reading yours as we speak.

No build update BUT....

I can keep up with a Coyote with my nitrous. I hung right there with my brother in his 2013 GT. Felt great. My tune is not tweaked at all so it still has potential in it. I'm finally feeling good about my car again. I was getting discouraged after my last track outing.

You should be proud buddy, you have built quite a mean new edge (and with your own hands). Even in stock form, I think these are very fun and pretty quick cars, but the fact that you can keep up with a coyote (regardless of N02), is pretty damn cool. I think it is still one of the best looking styles, and I know that they get a bad rap, compared to todays standards of speed, but like we have discussed in previous posts not even the majority of 60's muscle cars (let alone the 70,80, early/mid 90's) could keep up with what is rolling onto show rooms now days.

Hope you continue to get a lot of fulfillment out of her!

Here are the QTPS. They are used but only had like 10 passes on them. They have a good amount tread left. 28x11.50x16. Mounted on 16x7.5 V6 rims

Vortech Boost a Pump. Installed this because my pump was maxed on the 125 shot. I ended upping the shot to 150 and then broke an exhaust valve.

Here is my rear end housing. Painted it with Rustoleum Hamemred. Installed 4.10s, new bearings, seals, Boss 302 diff cover ($78 from Tasca Ford...OEM part).

Nitrous install. Love the juice. Wish I would have gone NX plate but this is doing just fine. I still might splurge on a plat conversion but I would rather a remote opener and a dyno tune before that.

Here is a side shot of my car lowered. FRPP C's. I love the stance. Not the lowest but it looks good. Before the new rims obviously.

Wheels and tires finally! Love them 315 meats out back.

I ran a [email protected] with a 1.8 60ft. Almost in the 12s....I love these QTPs though.

Nice. So a little getting used to them and how to launch with them I would think you should be a little quicker.

How were they at the top end? I saw over at Modded (I just lurk there, have for years) one of the guys was saying the ass end might get a little wobbly or something to that effect down at the end of your run due to the 7" wheels.

Definitely have to get used to launching again. Took me 4 runs to get the 1.8 60ft and 13.0 run.

They sway a tad at the bid end but it's not as bad as people said it would be. By run 4 I didn't even notice it.

I ran a 13.7 while missing 3rd lol I think that run might have been a 12s run but oh well. I'll hit 12s before the winter.

Definitely loving those new wheels!

So youre doing all this running on a stock tune, or an email tune? Not a bad time at all. What was the trap speed?

Right now I run a Bama tune. I haven't had the funds to get a dyno tune (new house, new baby coming, etc...).

Trap speed was 105 on the 13.0 run.

Dude, congrats on the baby! My wife just had our second kid 2 months ago.

I feel like your speed should have been higher. I did a pi head swap on a buddies car with a set of cams and his trap speed was 112 mph.
