Is the KYB brand a performance brand

I'm looking to replace the struts and rear shocks on my 2000 mustang. I was looking at KYB ones on Summit and wondered if they are better than stock. I don't need top of the line performance stuff but something a little bit better than stock.

I'm having a hard time believing that the $60/pair units on Amazon are any good.

I installed the KYB stock equivalent struts & shocks on my mom's '99 and they ride really well. Its a daily driver. When I was researching I went to KYB's site to see how they recommended which of their products to use instead of the vendor's site descriptions. Also, not sure if the 2000 has rear quad shocks, but the only place I found that carried them was cjponyparts. I read several posts that they aren't really necessary and leave them off, but I went ahead replaced them anyway.

I have used KYB's on everything for a few decades now..... can't go wrong...typically about 10% stiffer than oem but has a good ride and response..... doesn't jar your teeth out, just feels a little bit firmer.

The KYB is a good strut. I suggest buying the KYB GR-2 Strut & Mount kit on RockAuto. You get the 2 struts, 2 bellows and all of the strut mount bushings. Its about $160 for the kit. I would even get new coil spring seat insulators. Its about $30 for the set. Its $200 well spent.

The rear KYB GR-2 shock are about $60 for the set.

While replacing the struts, it's also a good time to check the inner and outer tie rod ends, and ball joints and replace them if worn.

And top everything off with a 4 wheel alignment when done.

I sound like a used car salesman but if you are replacing struts, this is the time to invest a few hundred in parts to restore the front suspension and steering and eliminate the typical things that make a lot of noise in the front end. I do this between 70 -90 thousand miles on my cars and its like driving the car off the new car lot.

I have the KYB GR-2’s (Excel G is same shock/ strut as GR2) on my ‘95 and they’re decent. Mine handles well enough but it has a few other new & improved suspension parts as well but nothing radical. I’d buy them again. Dad put them on a ‘97 GT convertible and they were ok on that one too, all else was stock.
Quad Shocks- Go with Gabriel part number 14309. Some vendors list them as steering dampers. Foxbody’s and ‘94-‘04 had them. They’re for trying to control “wheel-hop” under hard acceleration, no so much for going around corners.
