i know, i said if you read, all i have is a hair dryer to work with. i never said its as good as a heat gun and will do the job.

what home resources or not expensive things could help me?

Anyway, you should check out eBay for some heatguns. Its not $10 but I think it should work for you

Get a heat gun or learn to live with the stripes, I wouldn't use boiling water, its not likely to work as it won't stay in contact long enough to heat the stripes up enough to soften the adhesive. Only 2 real options are getting a heat gun for $10 or pay a pro. No clue why your dad would be against a heat gun, they're not dangerous unless you're very stupid with them, and they are pretty useful things to have around.
