KNow anyone at a Ford dealer, may be a TSB or something out on this by now. If no check engine light is on, it could get tough to fix, without being able to duplcate the problem. Even if they can, if it's not dead when they work on it, could be hit or miss. Could be fuel or wiring, neither easy or cheap, good luck.

could be idle speed incorrect, fuel filter clogged, water impurities in fuel, emissions system components faulty, faulty or incorrectly gapped plugs, vacuum lead at the intake manifold or hoses, or faulty fuel injectors. check that all out

Do you have a custom tune? My car used to do this with a Brenspeed tune until the tune was revised. Hasn't done it for 3 months. Car would just die. No error light, nothing. Would start right back up. Would not do it with the stock tune or a strategy tune, just with the Brenspeed tune.
