Wierd Gas Tank needle Mystery

So my 2002 gt had the low fuel light pop up and stopped at my local shell to fill it up.. It wasnt just this once but all the times ive filled it up so far since i bought it. Why when i fill it up when the gas is low on the gauge it does not put in the full gas tanks ability of 15.4 Gallons my last fill up stopped at 12.8???

Normal, mine does the exact same thing. It's a reserve for idiots who don't know what "E" means. There's about a 2 gallon reserve after you're on empty, just in case. I've pushed mine a bit, and have put 14 gallons in it before, but I don't want to end up on the side of the road out of gas, so I don't let it get below 1/8 tank anymore.

Hey Bullitt, doesn't E stand for ENOUGH??? Yeah that's normal. I got 14.8 once, I really pushed it on the highway, but I rarely let it get below 1/4 tank.

Wait what do you mean there is a 2 gal reserve after E? Does that mean like after the needle hits the e exactly or when the low fuel light pops up? And what do you mean when you pushed it a bit having put 14 gals in it before?

We took the car past empty on the gauge, and got over 14 gallons in it.
