2002 Mustang GT-Bad vibration when going over 70mph, Help!

i have an 02 gt and im getting this real bad vibration when going at highway speeds, anything over 70mph starts the vibration. my steering wheel starts to shake and it feels like its coming from the front end of the car.. i was told to check the u joints but i was wondering if maybe a simple wheel balance and alignment could fix this problem...

You could have a belt that shifted in a tire. It happened to my wife's car. Just when I was going to have it checked out, the tire blew.

There's quite a few things that can cause vibration at speed, but I think you're doing the right thing having the balance checked on the tires first. Start easy and work your way up. You could even try swapping wheels from the front to the back, an unbalanced or bent wheel won't show up as bad if it's on the back of the car.

Does it shake the steering wheel when braking as well? Warped brake rotors is another common cause of vibration that noone thinks about. U-Joints, balljoints, etc are also things to check.

Was the vibration there before you swapped them out? Or did it appear shortly after?
