Question 1997 Mustang GT, Where to find the wire from alternator to fusebox?

First of all I hate electricity in any form. I gave my parents my old 97. They were driving it today when the wire that runs from the alternator to the fuse panel inside the engine bay shorted out ( AKA caught fire). The question I have is what does the origanl wire look like. The one that was on the car was spliced at some point of time (the reason why it shorted), not by me, and split into two wires then fused into one connecter on the fusebox end. The rest of the wire back to the ALT is a kinda thick black wire with a red stripe. Simple connecter with a little cover that sits on top of the ALT. Any ideas on replacement. Thanks.

so never mind just cliped the wire passed the fried part and put a new connecter on it then shrink wraped. Still cant figure out why the old connecter would have two wire spliced into it but every thing seems to be fine now
