considering that is a 3X increase over standard air pressure, she is most likely playing with 900HP. Unless she has also done some serious reinforcing of the rest of the engine it will go pop if she ever tries to use it all.

If she claims 45psi, you need to ask her what work was done to the engine to allow it to handle that much. See if she has an answer to that....

My friend Robs Twin Turbo 2007 GT produces about 42lb's of BOOST but the car cost close to $120K so NO a stock 4.6 isn't gonna be able to reach anywhere NEAR that level, this question is a joke right?

If you put 45psi on a stock 4.6 you need to bring a front end loader. A broom and dust pan will take forever to clean up the pieces of the engine. This is no joke, if you put a grenade into it you will get less damage. Your friend is full of sh*t. It doesn't really matter where the boost comes from, supercharger, turbo, hairdryer, leaf blower, etc. What matters is the volume of air you are trying to put in and the temperature of that air. At 45 psi, even if the air was -150 degrees the engine would let go like a bomb. The most I've seen on a 4.6 in person was 38lbs, and that was easily a 200k racecar. On a stock engine 8psi is the most anyone will tell you, maybe 10 if you have an excellent intercooler and tune, and don't mind risking blowing the engine.

I could run 45lbs of boost on my stock engine. At least I could make it show up on the gauge as 45lbs. Put a serious restriction in the intake tract and watch the boost climb on the gauge.

Boost is not a real number to compare horsepower with. Boost is all relative to restriction. As an old school hotrodder, I have serious hearburns with "That's a 9lb pulley", since on my car it could be 5lbs on the gauge, it all depends on the amount of restriction in the system. I also have issues with "Stage 2" cams, but that's another subject altogether.

It'd take 45 psi of boost... once. It'd scatter the engine with 45 psi on there. Sure the owner didn't mean 4-5 psi?

yeah theres no way man, 10psi is jusst about the limit for a stock 4.6 if you go over that it wont break right away or anything but overal reliability goes down quite a bit, ive had 9-10psi for almost 45,000 miles on my stock 4.6 internals and i dont have any problems at all, then again i baby it and change the oil every 1,500 miles and run engine cleaner and z-max thru it every oil change haha

Wow a woman with 45lbs of boost? Can you send a picture of the car?
Seriously, about 450rwhp is the general concensus of what's safe...the rods and pistons just don't have the strength to accomodate more, or so it's said...
Would be a great magazine article to find what the limit really is
