Coolant smell

Hey guys got a 1997 GT convertible with 85k miles on it. Had it a bit over 6 months now and last night driving home I started to smell coolant when either my heat or front window defogger was on. The first thing that hit my head was my heater core probably leaking. Had that happen before in another car except I had puddles of coolant on the drivers side. I checked under the carpets and saw a little bit of coolant there and I saw where its possibly is leaking from. Now its not in the same amount as my other car but its there. Now my question is if thats what I think it is or another issue that could be causing it? And possibly how much would a new heater core would cost?

Thanks guys
Alex

The heater core itself is cheap, the install sucks badly though.

Yes the install does suck. You should be able to find a new one for around $50. If your doing it yourself make sure to have a good set of instructions before you start.

If its your heater core I would get that fixed asap. See if there is any coolant on the drivers side under your carpet. Cuz if its the heater core it will start to leak more and you will have big puddles of coolant. And coolant doesn't evaporate so it will either take forever to get it all cleaned out or you might need to get new carpet for your car :/
