Again, it depends on your driving style and your long range plans. If you plan a power adder, you want the stock gears. If you do a lot of interstate driving, you're gonna hate 'em. If you want a little more gear and do a lot of highway driving, go with 3.45s out of a Ranger.
A bunch of people argued with me a couple of years ago re: power adders, but last year SuperSix Motorsports proved the issue, by running 10s with the stock gears.
You go too short on the gears, and a power added engine will wind up too quickly.
