You can probably go super old school and get a cd changer that mounts to the upper roof of the trunk. Most decent after market stereos come with "remotes" but I doubt they have far signals and the actually function and use of remotes would be hard to know what you're doing without actually seeing the head unit.
Like stated, best to just get a detachable face plate. It's a PITA to keep removing.

In my civic I actually would always remove mine an place it in the case provided and stow it in the arm rest. Someone broke in and tore out the whole dash, and knew exactly where I put the face plate.... They had to be watching me for a while to know where it was exactly. Best bet is to bring it with you if you have no alarm.
