It doesn't affect anything. I've got 115,000 miles now, and have had no problems, though I'v ehad the ticking noise since day one. I had it on my 77 F-150, my 68 Mustang, my 82 Mustang, and my 68 Cougar.

It's nothing. you can spend a lot of money to fix it, but you won't gain anything related to longevity or performance.
