Bang for Buck- Name Brand Cat-Back vs Muffler Shop

I need replace the mufflers and one of the pipes going over the axle (I’ll do both) in my ‘95. Which do y’all think will come out cheaper, buying a cat back, or buying mufflers only and having a muffler shop fab up the pipes? A muffler shop would be/will be installing the cat-back as well. The cat-backs I’ve been browsing seem to be in the $500 range. The Flowmaster 40 series is what I’m leaning towards, but nothing in stone. What kind of stinks is that the kits for ‘94-‘98 only come with 2.5” tail pipes because they say the 3” won’t clear something or another. I have fairly new 3” tips welded on to the factory exhaust pipes now. I guess I’d see if the muffler man would/could put those on the new over the axle pipes. So more money spent on labor there I guess.
What’s the most cost effective way to go about this? Flowmaster 40 series are around $80, so you’ll be in around $200 by the time they’re shipped. Would it be $300+ to have a muffler shop fab up the rest? I bet a cat-back install would run between $200-$300, does that sound about right?
What would y’all do?

Vote one for muffler shop. Last time I had the muffler shop do mufflers (maybe 8-9 yrs ago) I think it was around $300 for them to remove the pre-cats off the stock h and to replace the afts w “high flows” and a pair of their off brand Flowmaster type mufflers.

Garage
Cat back would be your best bet, less labor involved there, no fabrication

It’d be $329 prior to shipping and taxes for two mufflers and two over the axle pipes from LMR.com. So maybe it’d be a little cheaper to piece your own kit together.
Really I just need the pipe and not the tips, as I’d like to reuse my 3”’ers.

Better yet. Maybe I’ll get two new mufflers and seeing if the muffler shop could weld up the one leaky over the axle pipe.
I don’t think it’d be messing out on much by staying with the 2.25” instead of “upgrading” to 2.5”. The exhaust is behind a/c and brakes on the to do list so it’s not too pertinent.
