I don't think the 4.0 are bad at all. My old one would hang with this one til 60 and I used to routinely get 29 mpg on highway and occasionally 31-32 with modifications. I think the 3.7 is a Great upgrade but I still appreciate any mustang it's better than everyone driving prii.
