Adaptation won't entirely eliminate the need to change some characteristic of how the tires dig in. He could easily adapt but could still lose a few ticks on the track because of the adaptation. I doubt anyone is trying to spin at the drag track, outside of the burnout area, but it happens anyway. On the open road it's not a problem. Adapt away.
