If you want a project car, start with a 2005-2009 V6 ro even a 2010 V6 - it'll be cheaper than a used GT. Since it's a project car, it doesn't really matter what shape the drive train is in as long as the body/frame is straight. Then strip it, dip it (on a rotisserie), weld the seams, install a roll cage (f that's part of your project), and do a fresh paint job on it. At that point, you're starting with a "new" car, and do what you want after that...
