And there is a lot of validity to that statement, as all new engines do produce some amount of metal particles and always will. After that most people, change their oil at recommended intervals, or somewhat before. I think the majority change it in the 3500-55000 mile range.
I personally feel it is worth the money to do the first oil change early.( at around 1000 miles) I have always considered it to be cheap insurance.
